Is It Time To Quit Streaming On Twitch?

Is It Time To Quit Twitch? Should I Quit Twitch Streaming?

Question: I’ve been streaming for 9 months and I just can’t get a consistent viewership on my twitch channel, is it time to quit twitch?

When is the right time to give up on your hopes of becoming a Twitch broadcaster, what if you just can’t get that traction?

There are actually a few good reasons to quit twitch and that is what we will cover today. First, know that every streamer has peaks and valleys. Even the successful streamers have had moments of doubt and wondered, “Is this all worth it” or “what if I don’t make it”

Quit Twitch If: You care about the total number of followers you have accumulated.

If you only care that after 9 months, you have only gotten 100 or 300 or 700 followers etc, you need to quit. Each person that follows your stream is an individual with their own ideas, emotions and pains. If you only care about the total number, you are overlooking the individual and is likely the reason you are failing in the first place. Think about a politician, they need to care about every single voter, not the giant population of a city. They need to meet, interact and shake hands and listen to the problems of every citizen. These will help them find the problems of the greater whole.

Exercise: Grab a sheet of paper and write down your 5 most consistent viewers on Twitch. (If you can’t remember their names, this is a really bad sign)

Write down everything you have learned about them from communicating in the chat on the left side of the page. Next time you talk, ask them the #1 thing they like about your stream and put it on the right side. From there, think about the reasons they like it and build around them. This is working inside out like a politician and gets you back focusing in relationships instead of the group as a whole.

Pro Tip: Don’t compare yourself to other people. “Well, Jiggybro24, started 3 months after me and he has 2500 more followers than me, I must suck” This will only discourage you.

Quit Twitch If: You Think You’re Too Late

If you think you are too late, you will likely fail. We have already covered that you are not too late with the grocery store test.  This is a failing attitude of fear and doubt that will never allow you to go all the way. You will always have that excuse in the back of your head. “I didn’t make it anyway because I was too late” which may be true but realistically you are just trying to protect yourself from saying “I wasn’t good enough”

I didn’t set good enough goals, I didn’t stick to a schedule, and I didn’t put in the time. Look inward, not outward. Don’t let fear cripple you before you even get started.

Pro Tip: If you think you’re too late, go start streaming on Steam! It just came out and you have the opportunity to get big as it is brand new and still in Beta. Wait, you don’t think you can get big on Steam either? So, it is you then…

Quit Twitch If: “I’m Just Not Entertaining”

If you just wanted to get on Twitch to “play games”, that is totally fine. You don’t have to build up a channel or a viewership. However, that is not the true case for most people. People really do want to have a great community of like-minded gamers that will pop in the chat when they go live. They just pretend they don’t because it is hard at the start.

“If I just start streaming my gameplay, hopefully a few people will stop in and who knows, I’m already playing anyway”

This is a fear protected phrase that shifts and blame away from the streamer. They don’t admit what they actually want, which is a community. They don’t set any goals and they don’t cater to any viewers.

Take Action: Comment Below or Email Us: “Why Should A Viewer Want To Watch Your Stream?”

If you say things like “I’m not doing this to be entertaining” well, then why would somebody stick around? Why would you want a viewer that spends hours watching something that bores them, doesn’t seem like a cool person to talk to?

My personal goal is to try and provide answers to the games that I play on my stream. If anyone types a question in the chat, I will do my best to explain it and give them an in-game example. It may not be entertaining them in the traditional way like a joke, but it engages them and provides them value. That is why I stream!
