Why You Fail & How to Overcome It Today

I was talking with a close friend the other day about failure. This wasn’t the first time we talked about it and it won’t be the last.

The more familiar we become with it the better we will understand how to overcome it.

Why 2 Heads Are Not Always Better Than 1

He shared with me a quick story about research done in the Airline Industry about success & failure rates with inspection processes.

When two people specifically worked on the same task they found that both people missed out on issues that they should have brought to the attention of the inspection test.

When the same inspection was done but only by one person the “miss” of the inspection was much lower compared to when two people were working.

Why?

Doesn’t that go against everything we are told about life, success, etc you name it…

“2 Heads Are Better Than One”

“You’re Only As Strong As Your Weakest Link”

So, why was the miss rate higher when two people worked on the same task?

Accountability.

The miss rate was higher because when more than one person works on the same task they have the luxury of relying on the other person to catch their mistakes.

They also have the ability to take blame off themselves in the situation that something goes wrong.

When we are put in situations where we are the only person in charge for one specific task we then take on full responsibility of the outcome.

When full accountability is put on our own individual shoulders our success rates sky rocket, for the simple reason we don’t want to be the reason for the failure.

I have seen this same exact scenario play out in my life many times, but I have only recently discovered one specific truth about this story.

2 heads are indeed better than one…

Just make sure 100% accountability is set in place. Make sure that, if two people are working towards mutual goals, they have separate tasks they’re working on.
